This article proposes a reading of Judith Butler's book Gender Trouble, which discusses the distinction between sex and gender, questioning the variable construction of identity. It focuses on queer theory, in an attempt to explain concepts such as performance and performativity, employed by Butler to analyze the socially constructed nature of gender.
